Bystron stressed that citizens’ real worries are not cosmetic packaging changes but massively increased living costs: “The greatest concern of consumers in the EU is high food prices, high housing prices and high heating costs.”
He accused the Commission of deflecting from its own responsibility with sham battles: “What you have presented here looks like shadow boxing. You always only criticize the companies—yet they act within the market.”
Instead of discussing interventions in entrepreneurial decisions, Bystron calls for an honest analysis of the causes:
“First: the inflation that came with the introduction of the euro. Second: the increased housing and heating costs, particularly due to the EU’s politically motivated and economically catastrophic embargo on Russia. In both cases the culprit is sitting here in this room.”
The MEP calls for more self-criticism within the European institutions:
“I demand more self-reflection—and that you finally address the real culprit instead of constantly bashing companies.”
