Commenting on this, Markus Buchheit, MEP of the ESN Group, stated:
“What is being marketed as a Clean Deal is merely yet another attack on our industry. The Commission simply ignores the different site costs across the EU, the lack of energy security—especially in Germany—and the resulting loss of competitiveness for member states.
The endorsement of central climate goals and a CO₂-neutral industry reveals a complete denial of industrial policy realities: an EU-wide steering of ‘green’ industrial policy will only lead to severe competitive disadvantages compared to the USA and China—not to a 90% CO₂ reduction by 2040 or to a million new jobs. Terms like bureaucracy reduction and national flexibility are nothing but empty phrases in the Commission’s jargon.
Without affordable energy prices and sovereign economic strategies by the member states, there will be no globally competitive industrial production in Europe. Green Deal, Clean Deal—it doesn’t matter what these bureaucratic monstrosities are called—they merely give Brussels bureaucrats a sense of indispensability.
The results of such dirigiste models can be seen in Germany: thanks to the eco-socialists, the Federal Republic has become the sick man of Europe. Short- to medium-term prospects for recovery? Very poor!”
