Anja Arndt expresses strong criticism of this initiative. From her perspective, it is a morally motivated but inconsistent approach, as liquefied natural gas (LNG) from countries like the USA or Qatar is still being imported. According to Arndt, this fuel is not only more expensive but also especially harmful to the environment due to the energy-intensive liquefaction process and long-distance transport. She also warns of increasing dependence on new energy suppliers and criticizes the burden on consumers due to high energy prices.
The ESN Member of the European Parliament, Anja Arndt, comments:
“The EU talks about climate protection and dependencies – while creating new dependencies on global corporations and third countries, as domestic industries are brought to their knees.
This policy harms Germany twice: economically and ecologically. The pipeline infrastructure, which was reliable, efficient, and costly, is being sacrificed for ideological reasons. Instead of rational energy policy, we get green planned economy and EU double standards. Anyone who truly wants to represent German interests and protect the environment must decisively oppose this madness”
