“Between 2015 and 2021 alone, the EU transferred around €700 million to Libya. The total is now far higher—yet illegal migration has not been curbed, political stability has not been achieved, and fundamental human rights have not been enforced. Once again, European taxpayers’ money disappears without effect, wasted on a fundamentally flawed strategy.
Instead of paying corrupt or unstable non-EU countries to block migration, the EU must finally do its own homework and invest in protecting its external borders.
For years we have seen the same pattern: the Commission makes grand promises, billions flow abroad, and in the end the EU is left overwhelmed, with no tangible improvements, watching helplessly as its external borders are overrun.
The fact that even the responsible Migration Commissioner is now barred from entering one of the EU’s most heavily subsidised countries is an embarrassing diplomatic low point—and a fitting symbol of a completely failed European migration policy.”
