On the presentation of the “Industrial Accelerator Act” by the European Commission, Member of the European Parliament Markus Buchheit (AfD), a member of the Industry Committee (ITRE), stated:
“The legislative proposal, said to be a central element of the ‘Clean Industrial Deal’, provides neither Europe’s industry nor its citizens with real security.
In the ESN Group’s assessment, the draft mainly creates new reporting obligations, unclear criteria, and additional uncertainty. Under the slogan ‘Made in Europe’, the Commission is trying to build up ever stronger industrial policy control from Brussels, including deciding which sectors are to be considered ‘strategic’ and how public funds and contracts are to be directed.
Anyone who truly wants to make Europe strong must make use of the diversity of our economies instead of forcing them into an ideological straitjacket of uniformity. What is being sold here as acceleration is in reality another step toward Brussels-style central planning.
Instead of technology-open framework conditions and affordable energy, new requirements, quotas, and subsidy schemes are being expanded. Energy-intensive industries, the automotive sector including its suppliers, and many of Europe’s industrial core sectors are being burdened even further, although energy and regulatory costs are already undermining competitiveness today.
Without affordable energy, no ‘Made in Europe’ will work, only a ‘Closed for Business’.
We therefore call for a change of course: less centralization, more national responsibility, less bureaucracy, technology-open innovation, and above all reliable framework conditions for investment.
Industrial, energy, and structural policy belong back in the hands of sovereign nation states, where the consequences are borne and solutions are implemented. In the European Parliament, we will clearly oppose this Industrial Accelerator Act.”
