Mary Khan, Member of the ESN Group, explains:
“This is a dark day for parliamentary credibility. The left half of this Parliament is prepared to defend far-left violence. Those charged with serious violent crimes must not evade the rule of law with the help of political majorities. The committee’s decision sends a disastrous signal—above all to the victims of far-left violence.
The handling of the Salis case proves this Parliament is blind in its left eye. First, the case was delayed for over a year, even though the hearing has already taken place; then today’s vote was carried out in secret.
My personal suspicion is that parts of the EPP also want to protect Salis from investigation in order to take action against Viktor Orbán’s government.”
