ESN deputy Petr Bystron himself adds:
“The Brussels tariffs mainly hit Germany’s export-oriented industry. Many companies produce globally. The ban on combustion engines is also an ideologically driven wrong turn. The sharp rise in heating-oil prices is due to the Russia embargo—I emphatically warn of further damage from a looming tariff war with the USA.
It must be said clearly: we cannot influence what is decided in the White House, but we can influence what is decided here in Brussels. Instead of constantly bashing companies, more self-reflection is needed. The true causes of our economic problems lie in Brussels.
What really harms industry are the Commission’s interventions that distort the market—such as embargoes and tariffs. They lead everywhere to higher prices. Gas and oil prices have exploded because of the Russia embargo. This has driven up the cost of all energy-intensive industrial products, from aluminium and chemicals to steel, and thus the prices of every subsequent product manufactured here in Europe.”
