Commenting on this, ESN Group MEP Mary Khan said:
“The far-left extremist and violent offender Ilaria Salis will keep her immunity and thus continue to evade the courts and responsibility for the most serious acts of violence. It’s now official: a majority in the European Parliament is protecting a far-left violent offender. This is another slap in the face of the severely injured victims of the gang-organized violent attacks in Hungary.
The vote was as close as it gets—just one vote short of lifting her immunity. Fully aware of this, the left-wing groups requested a secret ballot. While they long ago abandoned any restraint, it was above all the Members of the so-called centre who let the mask slip and, under the cover of secrecy, openly sided with a violent offender.
This is a dark day for Europe—and further evidence of the EU’s moral bankruptcy.
From the outset, the ESN Group worked to shed light on the Salis case and consistently called for her immunity to be lifted. Today’s result is a political confession of failure—it shows that, in the European Parliament, ideology is being placed above the rule of law and justice.”
