European Commission stonewalls on the costs of illegal migration – Mary Khan demands transparency

The response from the European Commission to a written question by ESN Member of the European Parliament Mary Khan is sobering. Mary Khan wanted to know the financial burden in the areas of healthcare, housing, education, security, and social welfare. Instead of answers, she received vague phrases and ignorance. Mary Khan comments:

“‘We don’t know – and we don’t want to know.’ These words sum up the response of the European Commission and Commissioner Magnus Brunner briefly and clearly.”

Apparently, Brussels fears the political explosive power of honest figures. Every year, hundreds of thousands of illegal migrants enter the EU – yet no one wants to know what this costs. Those who don’t count, don’t have to take responsibility. And those who don’t measure, can gloss over everything. The refusal to provide any transparency is a slap in the face to European taxpayers.

I therefore call for an independent, country-specific, and transparent cost analysis of illegal migration. Anyone who wants to talk about migration must also talk about its consequences – honestly, based on data, and without ideological filters. Anything else is political window dressing at the expense of the citizens.
