EU Targets Savings: Private Funds Now Expected to Finance the War Economy!

The European Commission has presented its Defence White Paper alongside the €800 billion rearmament programme Rearm Europe. A central element of this strategy is the mobilisation of private savings through the so-called Savings and Investment Union (SIU) to boost investments in the defence industry. The aim is to strengthen Europe’s defence capabilities and continue support for Ukraine.

Alexander Jungbluth, Member of the European Parliament for the ESN Group, commented:

“First, the German EU Commission President von der Leyen calls for billions in European rearmament without any mandate – and now she wants to get her hands on the savings of European citizens. For years, our money has already been handed out in the form of tax contributions to Ukraine without any oversight or transparency.

But these latest demands mark a new peak: The EU not only seeks to further limit national sovereignty but now wants to redirect individual citizens’ savings into investments for the war economy.

With this, the European Commission is increasingly and openly beating the drum for a ‘total war’ in Ukraine.

As the AfD delegation, we stand for the exact opposite of this EU – for peace, the preservation of cash, national sovereignty, and the right of savers to use their money as they see fit. Not a single cent more must go to Ukraine!”
