On 16 July, the European Commission presented its draft for the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2028–2034. Under this plan, the next financial framework would reach a new record of around €2 trillion. A central element is the planned new “own resources.” These include the proposed “CORE” own resource, which would impose a flat supplementary levy—raising €6.8 billion in total—on companies with annual turnover above €100 million.

Alexander Jungbluth (AfD), the ESN Group’s spokesman for budget policy, states:

“How can additional taxation of companies during an economic recession help strengthen the EU’s resilience and competitiveness? This budget proposal worsens the situation of businesses in global competition at an already difficult economic moment. We therefore reject the flat CORE levy.”
