With the Green Deal, the European Commission under Ursula von der Leyen laid the groundwork for Europe’s economic decline. German and European companies were subjected to an untenable bureaucratic and financial burden through the imposed reporting obligations. Under the omnibus regulation covering the two directives CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) and CSDDD (Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive), this burden is now to be significantly reduced.
Today’s successful vote in the European Parliament, initiated by ESN, ensures that the conservative groups can table amendments to relieve our economy. This helps prevent the draft report from being further watered down in negotiations with the Council and the Commission.
Member of the European Parliament and ESN coordinator in the Legal Affairs Committee (JURI), Mary Khan, declared after the vote:
“Today’s vote is a major success. It gives us the chance to set in motion the urgently needed relief for our companies and free them from the devastating constraints of the Green Deal. We are witnessing a turning point—away from green symbolic politics and toward pragmatic solutions. ESN is the guarantor of the survival of Europe’s economic strength.”
