Economy and security first – EU citizens have had enough of green symbolic politics

As a recent analysis by Euractiv shows, the economy and security are pushing climate protection down from the top ranks of European citizens’ political priorities. Inflation, geopolitical tensions, and the need for stability are increasingly shaping concerns across the EU. The article cites polling data and expert assessments indicating that people in Europe expect pragmatic answers to economic uncertainty and threats to their security. Climate protection is losing relevance compared with challenges that are felt more immediately.

ESN Group MEP Siegbert Droese commented:

“This development is no surprise—it confirms what we have been saying for years: people in Europe want security, economic stability, and real solutions instead of ideological climate experiments.

The so-called ‘Green Deal’ of recent years was expensive, socially divisive, and burdened many citizens with blanket bans, without Europe making a significant difference globally. At the same time, there is a lack of a clear migration strategy that creates order and protects borders.

We in the ESN stand for a pragmatic course: open to all technologies and market-oriented, no climate policy based on paternalism and prohibitions.

The polls are clear: citizens no longer want utopias, but a functioning state that protects them and creates opportunities. EU policy has run its course—only with a strong right-wing presence in the European Parliament can we still turn the tide.”
