Against the backdrop of the South African President’s visit with Donald Trump, Member of the European Parliament Siegbert Frank Droese views with concern the European Commission’s decision earlier this year to back South Africa with an investment package worth €4.7 billion despite glaring breaches of the rule of law. In a written question, Droese demanded a clear position from the Commission on the South African Expropriation Act, signed in January 2025, which empowers the state to seize land without compensation. The Commission’s reply, now available, remains vague. Siegbert Droese, MEP of the ESN Group, states:
“While the Commission stresses it will ‘monitor developments’, the situation on the ground has been escalating for years, and white farmers are the target of a brutal wave of violence – including routine torture, rape and murder. International human-rights organizations warn of systematic action against the white minority, yet the South African government plays it down or stays silent. Just like the red-green public in Germany and the EU, which apparently looks the other way when faced with anti-white racism.
It is a scandal: white farmers are being murdered, expropriated and deprived of their rights – and Brussels rewards this conduct with billions!
Given these conditions, many victims have already sought refuge in the United States – with the backing of U.S. President Donald Trump, who recently even hosted the South African President. Trump openly confronted him with a video documenting the violent persecution of the white minority. Meanwhile, the left-wing press mocks these people, referring to them as ‘refugees’ in quotation marks – and the EU remains silent.
Particularly revolting: the supposedly human-rights-minded EU finds no words for the crimes in South Africa. Instead, it throws taxpayers’ billions at a corrupt regime!
As long as property rights are abolished in South Africa, racist violence is down-played and tolerated, and a minority is systematically persecuted, not a single cent from Brussels should flow there. The EU makes itself complicit when it bankrolls a corrupt regime of injustice that is forcing a genocide in its own country. There must be an immediate halt to all EU investments in South Africa and an open condemnation of the Expropriation Act and the violence against white South Africans!”
