To stop the digital euro and limit its negative consequences, MEPs Rada Laykova and Siegbert Droese have submitted targeted amendments in the European Parliament. These are intended in particular to protect cash from being pushed aside, to restrict state control options, and to slow down the digital euro politically as long as it cannot be stopped.
ESN MEP Siegbert Droese said:
“The digital euro is a political dead end. It endangers freedom and self-determination. Our amendments are a means to stop this project and to defend cash as a payment method that safeguards freedom.”
Rada Laykova, ESN MEP, added:
“Especially for countries like Bulgaria, where the introduction of the euro is already being prepared against the will of many citizens, a digital euro would be another step in the wrong direction. That is why we are fighting in Parliament for cash, freedom, and against new instruments of control.”
ESN remains clear in its position:
We reject the digital euro. It is a political project against the interests of citizens.
