Housing crisis & EU climate rules
During the plenary debate on housing policy, ESN sharply criticised EU climate regulations such as the Buildings Directive and ETS2, warning that they are driving housing costs up across Europe. The intervention highlighted that housing prices have already risen dramatically and argued that additional regulatory pressure and costly renovation requirements risk making home ownership even less affordable for young Europeans. ESN called for the rejection of ETS2 and the Buildings Directive and warned against policies that could further burden citizens and property owners.
Simpler rules for emission credits in heavy-duty transport
Parliament supported a technical clarification in the calculation of emission credits for heavy-duty vehicles for the reporting periods 2025–2029. The change simplifies the system by making clear that emission credits are generated when a manufacturer’s fleet emissions fall below the CO₂ target value, creating more planning certainty for the European transport sector.
Debate on left-wing extremist violence
The European Parliament also discussed political violence linked to left-wing extremism. ESN strongly condemned political violence and called for a clear and consistent response against extremist attacks.
First plenary week for a new ESN member
This plenary session also marked the first week in the European Parliament for ESN’s new MEP Roberto Vannacci, strengthening the group’s presence in the chamber.
