The European Parliament’s LIBE Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs has approved a report on the state of the rule of law in the EU in 2024.

In a highly political report, the committee approved more censorship of social networks, more funding for left-wing NGOs and condemnation of Hungary.

In a surprising vote, it was even approved that Member States that have not yet done so should introduce legal recognition of same-sex partnerships.

It could only be voted through with a left-wing majority supported by EPP votes. The ESN Group regrets that EPP members gave in to the injunctions of the left.

Legal recognition of same-sex partnerships was approved by EPP-MEPs Monika Hohlmeier (Germany), Verena Mertens (Germany), Oliver Schenk (Germany), Ioan-Rareş Bogdan (Romania), Paulo Cunha (Portugal), Rasa Juknevičienė (Lithuania), Jeroen Lenaers (The Netherlands), Jüri Ratas (Estonia), Tomas Tobé (Sweden), Maria Walsh (Ireland), Javier Zarzalejos (Spain) and Tomáš Zdechovský (Czechia).

ESN will continue to defend genuinely right-wing positions, such as the sovereignty of Member States to decide for themselves on this topic.
