Trump halts refugee influx — AfD foreign-policy figure Bystron: “What works in the U.S. is possible in Europe too.”

U.S. President Donald Trump plans to cap the number of refugees admitted in 2026 through the U.S. Refugee Resettlement Program at just 7,500—the lowest level since the 1980s. Previously, the United States admitted around 100,000 refugees annually under this program. The administration is sending a clear signal in favor of national sovereignty, control, and a migration policy geared to the country’s own interests.

ESN MEP Petr Bystron commented:

“Trump is showing the way: migration can be limited. What works in the United States is also possible in Europe—a consistent reduction of migration.

We should first and foremost help persecuted Christians and the descendants of European settlers in Africa who are now facing racist attacks.

While Washington acts decisively, our countries continue to be inundated with migrants entering via the asylum route.”
