The Left Blocks Protection for Women Against Sexual Violence

As left-wing MEPs failed to secure a majority in yesterday’s EU trilogue, they deliberately caused the collapse of the entire vote. As a result, a proposed EU law to protect victims of sexual violence could not be adopted.

ESN Group MEP Irmhild Boßdorf commented:

“What happened in yesterday’s trilogue is a political scandal. Because the Left failed to win a majority for its so-called ‘right to abortion’ and couldn’t force it into a central EU law, they simply let the entire vote collapse. The outcome? No EU-wide protection for victims of sexual violence!

Even the often hesitant EPP took a stand for national sovereignty. But instead of accepting the democratic majority, left-wing parties simply walked away from the negotiations. And the ones who suffer? Women in urgent need of protection from sexual violence.

Leftist parties in the European Parliament are not interested in protecting victims of sexual violence. They merely instrumentalize them to push their society-dismantling ideologies—such as the so-called ‘right to abortion’—onto sovereign states through the back door. And the EU administration? Not only does it stand idly by, it actively enables this undemocratic and morally reprehensible spectacle. A disgrace to politics.”
