A new report reveals how the European Commission is indirectly shaping public opinion through the funding of non-governmental organisations (NGOs). According to the investigation, this has led to the creation of a dense network that promotes political narratives aligned with the EU – all without public transparency. These revelations raise serious questions about the political neutrality and democratic legitimacy of this practice.
Mary Khan, Member of the European Parliament for the ESN Group, stated:
“What the EU calls ‘value promotion’ is nothing more than a massive propaganda machine, funded with millions in taxpayer money, designed to manipulate public opinion. Whether in Georgia, Bulgaria, or Romania – we see the destructive influence of the European Union everywhere: the division into ‘good’ and ‘bad’, and targeted interference in elections and political processes.
The recent revelations about the EU Commission’s covert funding of NGOs confirm what the AfD has been warning about for years: taxpayer money is being used to support organisations that spread government-aligned narratives and suppress critical voices. This network undermines democratic plurality of opinion and serves as an indirect propaganda tool of Brussels.
As AfD and ESN, we demand full transparency regarding financial flows and an end to political influence by so-called independent actors. The new U.S. administration is setting an example by dismantling similar projects on its own soil.”
