The escalation in the Middle East is leading to massive price increases for fuels such as diesel and petrol, heavily affecting German consumers. The Iranian attacks on oil fields and refineries have driven crude oil prices up by 13% within just a few days. Further price increases of more than 50% for gas, oil, and fuel are to be expected.
To ease the burden on consumers, MEP Petr Bystron, a member of the European Parliament’s Committee on Consumer Protection, is calling on the German federal government to take countermeasures:
“The German federal government must now suspend all taxes on fuels and energy sources: energy tax, VAT, and CO2 tax. It is time to relieve the burden on Germans and their industry.”
