The new US National Security Strategy under President Donald Trump marks a decisive turning point in transatlantic relations. Petr Bystron MEP (AfD) sees in it a clear message to the EU:

“The United States is calling on us to return to the values that made Europe and America great: democracy, freedom of speech and respect for private property.”

The strategy describes Europe as a “continent in economic and human-rights crisis”, threatened by EU policies: migration flows that are transforming the continent and fuelling conflict; censorship of free expression; suppression of patriotic opposition; falling birth rates and the loss of national identities. The US underlines its determination to work with allies in confronting China and in promoting a strong, sovereign Europe.

“The growing influence of patriotic European parties such as the AfD is a major reason for optimism,” the document states. Bystron comments: “This is a direct recognition of our work. The AfD has always fought for sovereignty, remigration and peace – precisely the priorities that Trump is now putting into practice.”

Bystron calls for an immediate change of course: “German and European policy must use the US strategy as an opportunity to renew transatlantic relations. Instead of censorship and mass migration, we need freedom of speech, remigration and peace.”
