Next week, the European Parliament will hold a debate on endometriosis. It follows two initiatives by Tomasz Froelich, deputy head of the AfD delegation in the European Parliament: in June, Froelich drafted a resolution that was signed by 15 MEPs from eight countries and four political groups (plus two non-attached MEPs). Froelich also submitted a parliamentary question about the inadequate investment in endometriosis research. He commented:

“Endometriosis is a serious illness that affects an estimated 200 million women worldwide and about 14 million women in Europe. Symptoms include severe pelvic pain, bowel problems and even the risk of infertility. In addition to individual suffering, there are many indirect costs for healthcare systems and the economy in the form of productivity losses at work. Endometriosis is clearly under-represented in EU-funded projects: only 27 of 145,983 funded projects (0.02 %) dealt with it. I am pleased that, as a result of my question and my resolution, the issue is now receiving the attention it deserves and will be debated by the European Parliament.”
