A 15-year-old student killed a 17-year-old female classmate with a hunting knife and seriously injured three other students at a Catholic high school in Nantes. A teacher reportedly managed to overpower him with a table. According to media reports, shortly before the attack, the suspected perpetrator sent a 13-page manifesto titled “Immune Action” to his classmates, in which he denounced environmental destruction, social alienation, and “totalitarian social conditioning.” He called for a “biological revolt” — even at the cost of innocent lives.

Commenting on this, Anja Arndt, Member of the European Parliament from the ESN Group, stated:

“The climate hysteria, also propagated by the European Parliament, is causing more and more young people to despair. The number of depressed young people is skyrocketing. The BARMER health insurance company, together with the SINUS Institute, conducted a study to examine ‘the effects of climate change’ on the mental health of young people. The results show that climate anxiety is now widespread among adolescents. 36% of surveyed young people reported experiencing severe anxiety about climate change (levels 8–10 on a ten-point scale), while another 27% reported moderate anxiety (levels 6–7). Only 16% stated that they had no anxiety (levels 1–3).

It is not alleged climate fluctuations that frighten our young people, but the irresponsible reporting by the media and misleading statements by politicians. Climate policy, which often is not based on scientific facts but rather on green-left ideology and fearmongering, unsettles and burdens our citizens. It not only leads to poverty and illness but also fosters the emergence of more climate extremists in the long term. In France, this climate hysteria has now even led to a rampage with dead and injured.

No one can have an interest in seeing our young people further frightened, unsettled, or even radicalized by this green-left ideology. We, the ESN Group in the European Parliament, say: Enough with irresponsible climate policy! Enough with the Green Deal!”
