The European Parliament operates 15 “Experience Europe” centres in which it promotes itself as an institution. The investment costs exceed €110 million, with a further €18 million in annual running costs. Another 14 centres are planned, meaning the total expenditure will rise sharply. These figures emerged from a parliamentary question submitted by AfD MEP Alexander Jungbluth.

The ESN-group budget spokesman commented:

“It is outrageous how the EU squanders taxpayers’ money to put itself in the spotlight. While constantly telling citizens they need to tighten their belts, the ladies and gentlemen in Brussels and Strasbourg treat themselves to luxurious self-glorification temples at taxpayers’ expense. The fact that President Metsola answered my question only after several reminders shows she fears the public’s reaction. I will continue to make sure that citizens learn about the European Parliament’s drastic waste of taxes for propaganda purposes.”
