A new phone for Ms von der Leyen — so that text messages no longer disappear

The Commission has admitted that, after “Pfizergate,” text messages on Ursula von der Leyen’s phone were once again automatically deleted “for reasons of storage space.” Christine Anderson, MEP, has therefore launched an initiative in the European Parliament to improve the Commission’s technical equipment:

“To support the Commission, I have asked all Members of Parliament to donate €5 each toward the joint purchase of a new mobile phone for Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Apparently she needs a phone that reliably stores messages without storage-space issues leading to automatic deletion. I have set up a jar in my office where anyone can make a donation. It’s a small, symbolic contribution, but it would have a clear effect: it would show our citizens that we take transparency seriously and do not accept that important communication disappears into nothing.”
