Billions for Kyiv, cuts for farmers – EU plans a tax hammer!

Yesterday the European Commission presented its plans for the new Multi-Annual Financial Framework. The overall budget is to rise sharply, priorities are shifting, and new taxes are to be introduced.

Alexander Jungbluth, budget-policy spokesman for the ESN group, sharply criticises the Commission’s plans:

“Inflating the budget by €700 billion to €2 trillion in the midst of the worst economic crisis in decades, instead of radically shrinking it, once again shows how far the EU Commission has drifted from reality. Setting aside €100 billion for Ukraine while forcing farmers to swallow massive cuts is simply unacceptable. The same goes for new taxes on companies with revenues above €100 million. On top of that, taxing e-waste and tobacco in such an arbitrary way will place an enormous burden on businesses already struggling economically, as well as on ordinary citizens. Overall, serious economic damage is to be feared.

We in the AfD will fight to cut the budget and relieve both companies and citizens. Only then can we help get the economy moving again.”
