Scrap Care Level 1, but squander billions on a climate circus abroad

In 2024, Germany spent more money than ever on “international climate protection.” According to the Federal Environment Ministry, the funds totaled €11.8 billion—almost twice as much as its own target of €6 billion per year.

MEP Anja Arndt of the ESN Group comments:

“It is unbelievable how irresponsibly the federal government wastes its citizens’ money beyond the commitments it has made, all while serving the interests of solar and wind power providers and global asset managers.

These payments are based on the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, in which industrialized nations pledged to provide $100 billion annually to developing and emerging countries—to allegedly address climate change they supposedly caused.

Among other things, they finance wind and solar installations in Africa and Asia, climate-friendly agriculture, and modern public transport systems in countries such as India, South Africa, and Mexico.

While Germany racks up record debt and debates scrapping Care Level 1, the federal government is throwing nearly €12 billion out the window on dubious climate projects abroad. Technologies that have caused massive damage here and are unsuitable for a stable power supply are being foisted on developing countries—to the benefit of a few profiteers.

At the upcoming climate conference in Brazil, the EU plans to expand these payments to $1.3 trillion—a thirteenfold increase. Germany would then have to contribute $78 billion.

We in the ESN Group demand an immediate end to these payments and withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement! The self-destructive course of the German government in cooperation with the EU must be stopped.”
