“The European Union has created two instruments—the Digital Markets Act and the Digital Services Act—that pose a serious threat to free competition and freedom of expression online. Brussels is erecting a thicket of rules that stifles creativity and investment. Europe needs founders, not enforcers—yet the Commission treats markets as a security risk rather than a place of progress.
While venture capital and IT specialists move to the United States, the EU is preoccupied with surveillance, censorship, and bureaucracy. The single market, once the core idea of European integration, is being strangled by excessive regulation. The Commission must finally understand that prosperity, innovation, and freedom arise only where the state holds back and people can act entrepreneurially—not where every idea first has to be approved.”
Marc Jongen, also an ESN Group MEP in the European Parliament, added:
“A digital euro and a digital ID are a frontal assault on everyone’s privacy. They risk turning the EU into a total surveillance state—one that could even put George Orwell’s dystopia in the shade. We must not allow authorities to freeze the bank accounts of law-abiding citizens just because they criticize those in power. Now that the planned ‘chat control’ proposal appears to be faltering thanks to pressure from the AfD and its European allies, we will continue to defend citizens’ freedom against all further digital encroachments from Brussels.”
