Following significant international pressure, the British judiciary has reversed its decision: British activist Tommy Robinson is being released roughly two months before the end of his original prison sentence. His imprisonment was controversial from the start and drew criticism from around the world. Member of the European Parliament Petr Bystron is considered one of his strongest supporters. During Robinson’s incarceration, Bystron visited him in England and kept the public informed about his case.

MEP Petr Bystron, a member of the ESN Group, commented:

“Tommy is not an isolated case. In the heart of Europe, people are being intimidated, censored, and criminalized for exposing wrongdoing.

I will continue to stand up for all these courageous individuals who fight for freedom of speech and justice.

I am pleased that Tommy is pressing on and already planning new initiatives. His courage inspires many.

We will never allow the truth to be suppressed—neither by court orders nor by prison walls.”
