The Committee on Regional Development (REGI) has adopted its position on the Guidelines for the 2027 EU Budget. The rapporteur is ESN Member of the European Parliament Irmhild Boßdorf. The report stresses that the EU budget must be more clearly geared towards achieving common European objectives and must more effectively address socio-economic disparities, demographic change, and new geopolitical challenges.

MEP Irmhild Boßdorf, on behalf of the ESN Group, stated: “Today’s vote represents a real success, as we managed to reach a viable political compromise and secure a majority that makes European realpolitik possible. Together with the ECR, the PfE and the EPP, we have shown that pragmatic solutions matter more than ideological firewalls. The EU budget must finally serve people and regions again, instead of getting lost in bureaucracy and prestige projects. Especially in times of growing uncertainty, Europe needs a capable budget that focuses on what is truly necessary: affordable housing, strong regions, and genuine support for small and medium-sized enterprises. Local authorities and businesses must not be suffocated by ever-increasing administrative burdens while key programmes remain stuck. With this report, we send a clear signal for more efficiency, less red tape, and a cohesion policy that strengthens Europe’s unity.”
