Orbán’s veto protects German taxpayers and Europe from a 90-billion-euro burden for Ukraine

Viktor Orbán is currently blocking an EU aid package of around 90 billion euros for Ukraine, which is already supported by most member states but cannot be implemented because unanimity is required.

Dr Alexander Sell, ESN Member of Parliament and member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET), stated:

“With his veto against further financial aid for Ukraine, Viktor Orbán is representing the interests of German taxpayers better than the Federal Chancellor. In light of high energy prices, deindustrialisation, rising old-age poverty and record debt, we cannot afford to finance the war in Ukraine with another 90 billion.”
